Asana and pranayama are not the beginning of Yoga. But awareness in every action combining body, mind and spirit is.

"Through the practice of meditation you can learn to smile at circumstances, you can learn to see every stressful situation as a challenge, or an opportunity to learn, give, serve and love."

Satyananda Yoga

Satyananda Yoga emphasises a meditative approach and encourages insights into the spiritual aspect of Yoga, in the tradition of the Bihar School of Yoga (Satyananda Yoga).

Weekly classes for all levels: Regular attendance is encouraged, especially for beginners to ensure you have a good foundation in yoga. Classes include postures (asana), breath work (pranayama) and deep relaxation (yoga nidra) or meditation, appropriate to the level of the class. (All Yoga classes are held at St Timothy’s in Daybrook, Nottingham)

Kirtan (chanting) is held at 6.30pm on the second Friday of each month, preceded by the chanting 108 times of the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra for the relief of suffering. Kirtan is free, all welcome (This is held at the centre – please ring or email before setting off)

Do you want to go deeper into your yoga practice?

We hold day events and courses on Chakras and Meditation. Please be aware that places are limited; book early to avoid disappointment.

Twice yearly cleansing practices: neti, kunjal and lagoo shankaprakshalana

Neti is a salt-water irrigation of the nasal passages, requiring the use of a purpose made pot called a neti lota. It is an excellent practice for the management of hay fever, sinus disorders, catarrh, headaches, depression, anxiety and many other disorders. It is very easy to learn. One to One sessions can be arranged.

Paramahamsa Swami Satyananda, founder of the Bihar School of Yoga and Satyananda Yoga worldwide, left the body and attained Maha Samadhi at midnight (India time) Saturday 5th December 2009. Remember that the relationship that exists between the Guru and disciple is eternal. So whilst we may feel some loss on a physical level, be comforted by the knowledge that the mystical relationship of guidance, grace and blessings sustains the disciple through all births and all of eternity.

Swami Niranjan has suggested the following practices be done:

» Kirtan
» Mahamritunjaya mantra – with havan if possible

» Bhagavad Gita chanting
